Far more than your standard self-catering gites, we offer a spacious and luxurious setting for your holiday with either 2 or 3 large bedrooms available. Tastefully decorated with all the usual added extras, we are targeting repeat visitors and those that do enjoy and appreciate quality. We are ideally suited to that 'special occasion' and, depending on availability, can offer extra services such as evening meals and picnic lunches. You will have sole occupancy of your gite in a beautiful relaxing countryside location.
A spacious, open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area provides your main accommodation area, with TV and entertainment facilities. From this area two large bedrooms are accessible upstairs, both with King size beds and en-suite shower rooms. An adjacent lounge area, with the third mezzanine bedroom area is available when booked for 5 or 6 guests. A Superking size bed, with a further en-suite shower room are on this mezzanine level. All beds have memory foam mattresses. Both ground floor areas have front and rear entrance doors to patio areas.
Located in the beautiful south Vendée, part of the Loire region, our 'petit chateau' is steeped in history. The entire residential history of the main house is recorded and dates back to 1341. Some of the external features - including a medieval vaulted cellar - date back to the 11th century.
The perfect place as a base for exploring south Vendée - Puy du Fou, Marais Poitevin, Mervent Forest, Futuroscope, La Rochelle, Vouvant and other beautiful towns and the spectacular Atlantic coast, all within an hour away.

For up to 4 guests, an open plan spacious lounge, dining and kitchen area is supplimented by 2 large bedrooms, both with private ensuite facilities and King size beds. For 5 or 6 guests a further lounge and mezzanine area become available, offering a third Superking bed and a further ensuite shower-room. Bed linen, bathroom & beach towels are all provided. UK TV, DVDs, a BBQ and a complimentary GPS for your car if required, are all available for use. Parking and wifi are provided for free.
Whilst it's necessary to have a car to enjoy the area fully there are many quiet roads and walking and cycling paths accessible directly from your gite. Of course you may just want to come for the food, the wine and to spend your time relaxing and enjoying the sunshine and the blissful peace and quiet of life in rural France.

Summary: Superb week at La Retail. The gite is immaculately decorated and the hosts can’t do enough to help. Even made dinner for us when we arrived late from the ferry. Great location in France with many areas to explore and see locally such as La Rochelle and Putly de Fouy. The gite is stocked with everything you could ever need & there is a local hyper market close by for buying food. We’ll definitely be back!

Summary: The warm welcome from Pauline set the tone for our holiday here - the gite is beautiful, and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need - beach towels, beach umbrella, barbecue, plus loads of books, games and dvds that we didn't even get round to because of the gorgeous weather! Beautiful area and plenty to do, you can be as busy or as lazy as you want.

Summary: Had planned to stay here for a wedding. Unfortunately the wedding was cancelled and we were too late to get a refund so went ahead with the booking. The downstairs rooms are great but upstairs bedrooms too small and have no windows. It was very hot. The barn is south facing so had to keep curtains and doors closed all day to try to keep barn cool, only opening late evening to let fresh air in.There is a small sitting out/ dining area on gravel behind the barn overlooking the owners garden.

Summary: A most comfortable apartment, spacious and with style. Pauline and Doug have done a terrific job in creating a welcoming, smart gite which makes a place in which to spend some relaxing time as well as being a well positioned base to explore Vendee and Deux Sevres. We had five very comfortable nights and nothing negative to mention. The fact that we did not need to think about anything meant that Pauline and Doug make perfect hosts.

Summary: We had a wonderful week here in the Vendee. The location and property are beautiful and Pauline and Doug are excellent hosts, they couldn't have done more for us, providing a warm welcome, some unexpected treats and plenty of information on the area and it's attractions. The property made a great base from which to visit the area but also a place to chill out in the sun and relax. Local facilities were not far away and the journey there was easy given the proximity to the motorway.
